7 ways Yote Diamondback proves she’s a Slytherin equivalent
Yote Diamondback is a good girl, loves her mama, loves her higher power, and the nation of Etharia, too. But she’d rock the silver and green.
At first glance, Yote doesn’t have Slytherin qualities. Not with her little “nice girl, second-fiddle to her sister” persona.
But let me break down instances in The Arcane Prophecy that drive home the fact that yes, if Yote lived in J.K. Rowling’s universe, she’d “do well in Slytherin.”
None of what you’ll read below spoils the overarching plot, so I won’t put any spoiler warnings down. That said, they all bring out and shape Yote’s personality.
1 – She immediately falls for a rich kid
Yote’s in Aurora Village (Arcane’s setting) for about two seconds before she falls head over skates for Storm Sharpe. Storm’s got a cocky, cocky, bad personality that Yote doesn’t approve of, but makes excuses for. Storm’s elite status is Yote’s ace in the hole, she just won’t admit it.
2 – She’s quietly materialistic
Yote’s in Aurora Village for roughly one second and she’s already sitting with her feet up on a table inside a restaurant. Not to relax, but to admire her expensive new shoes. Yote may be a “jeans and hoodie” kind of girl, but she’ll cherish and flaunt expensive items.
3 – She’s envious of her sister
In The Arcane Prophecy, Jett’s so envious of Yote she’s willing to blindside and injure her. But Yote’s also got an envious streak. She hates the fact Jett owns her good looks: the ivory skin, straight black hair, and almond-shaped green eyes. As for Yote, well, her rust-colored hair frizzles out, she’s got pasty skin, and forgettable, owl-like brown eyes. Still, it’s internalized, restrained envy.
4 – Her ambitious streak is borderline toxic
Arcane Elemental Academy is hours away from Yote’s hometown, Kenborne. But if going there means getting into the elitist high school she wants, then Arcane could be half a world away. Lamerth is the goal. Yote’s an ambitious girl, and she sees Arcane as small time.
5 – She has a strange obsession with snakes
She’s a Diamondback, and she’ll do the occasional snake-like dance while saying, “Nothing grooves like a Diamondback.” She goes all catnip over a necklace with a snake pendant, and the box thrashball team she plays for is also called the Venom.
6 – She thinks her parents have the right worldview
Readers will immediately red flag Yote’s parents’ questionable practices. Impossibly high standards. No meals except for MREs if you lose a duel on the weekend. Those are just two of Mom and Dad’s shortcomings, but Yote supports this mentality. So much, she’ll snap at anyone who questions it.
7 – She can charm people into doing things for her

Yote’s brave, but she’ll hide behind others when convenient. She also knows characters like Storm also have a thing for her, and that he’ll do her bidding when charmed.
She’s also resourceful, turning casual conversations into Q&A sessions when she needs clued in on something. Yote can work her way out of any tight spot, and is good at sensing patterns and anticipating moves others will make before they even think of them.
You can catch a contingent of these traits in the first three chapters of The Arcane Prophecy. Learn a thing or two about Yote’s relationship with Jett, her parents, and catch that never-say-die mentality that makes her dangerous.
