7 ways Yote Diamondback looks a lot like Lord Voldemort
Yote Diamondback may be the hero of The Arcane Prophecy, but she’s got more in common with Lord Voldemort than she’d like to admit.
She’s not evil, but ambition, cunning, and obsession run deep in her blood. That said, Yote and the artist formerly known as Tom Riddle are more alike than you think.
Below, I got seven reasons why that is. And no, before you ask, Yote’s not splitting her soul into seven different pieces. She’s a rather likable character, not an immortality-seeking psychopath. But she’s got a dark side.
1 – They share the same birthday
While I use Finnish calendar months in Arcane Elemental Academy, the calendar year is the same as ours. So, on the 31st day of Joulokuu, Yote Diamondback celebrates her birthday.
And Tom Marvolo Riddle was born on December 31st, 1926, if you didn’t already know. To make things even more interesting, both were born late in the evening. That said, Yote was almost a New Year’s baby, missing the cut line by mere minutes.
2 – Yote’s got nothing but Slytherin qualities
You need to really read between the lines in this one because Yote doesn’t come across as a Slytherin. Heck, many readers will argue that Yote could be a three-way hatstall, with Slytherin as the odd House out if she were a Hogwarts student.
But again, when you read The Arcane Prophecy, or even Arcane Awakenings, pay very, very close attention to Yote’s personality, what she wants, and how she attains them. She’s a very calculated, cunning trickster who’s not scared to take the occasional risk, and it’s baked into her DNA.
That said, I’ve always seen her as someone the Sorting Hat would, in a microsecond, put in Slytherin.
3 – Both obsess over their family histories
While you only see flashes of this in Book I, Yote discovers a lot about her family, and you can sense her growing obsession in later installments. In The Arcane Prophecy, I’ll drop several hints and, if you know where to find them, oh, you’ll put the puzzle together.
That being said, the answer is no, Yote’s not a 1,000-year descendant of a prominent Elemental who wants to purge the school because of so-called blood status. Hell, Yote couldn’t care less about blood status since it’s not a theme in Arcane.
But it doesn’t mean she won’t find out something significant about her lineage.
4 – They get rather pissed off when they can’t charm an adult
Yote can be a charmer at times, I’ll give you that much. No, not quite in the same way Riddle charmed information out of teachers like Horace Slughorn or ghosts, like Helena Ravenclaw.
But when Yote desperately needs to touch down on “forbidden” knowledge, you can bet your ass that she knows exactly what to say. Sure, she’s got her issues, but her intelligence quotient’s hovering between ‘gifted’ and ‘genius.’
5 – Both have a thing for snakes
Yote’s last name’s Diamondback, so the snake association’s already baked in. But it doesn’t stop there. In The Arcane Prophecy, she receives a mysterious snake-shaped necklace and instantly falls in love with it.
No one knows where it first came from, but Yote doesn’t question it. She just feels drawn to it, like it belongs to her.
Sound familiar?
Voldemort was talking to snakes as a child and later bonded with Nagini, a cursed woman-turned-serpent. While Yote doesn’t speak Parseltongue, she shares that eerie magnetism with venomous creatures. And that might just be foreshadowing something bigger.
6 – Both can fool most bright minds
No, they can’t do this all the time, and they’re also vulnerable to getting fooled. But Yote and Voldemort can talk their way out of trouble, even when they’re the guilty party.
Yote’s nowhere near Voldemort’s level, but she’s quick to diagnose one’s personality, strengths, and weaknesses. This gives her leverage in tough situations, or when she’s caught doing something she shouldn’t.
7 – They’ll sacrifice anything to achieve their ambitions
From Page 1 in The Arcane Prophecy, you’ll realize that Yote is an ambitious girl. Not in a sinister way, since this isn’t one of those books in which the protagonist is every bit as antagonistic as their opponents.
But she holds herself to a high standard and isn’t afraid to put a friendship on the line if it means fulfilling her ambitions. Not that it wouldn’t hurt her, but Yote looks beyond the here and now.
Are you ready to meet Yote? Dive into The Arcane Prophecy and witness her rise firsthand when she steps into the Arcane Elemental Academy.
