A dark and disturbing truth lurking in Catenarian Chronicles
Catenarian Chronicles is a dark paranormal fantasy. But the dark and disturbing truth in this series is more terrifying than you can imagine.
A lot of dark fantasies focus on actual monsters or diabolical creatures. And don’t get me wrong, there are a few in Catenarian Chronicles.
But if you know me and my style, you know I like deviating from traditional norms and tropes. Catenarian Chronicles is no different. Instead of evil monsters that terrorize Kaija Jokiharju and Company, there’s something worse. Way worse.
And do you know what the true horror is? They exist in our own world. They’re the most notorious mass murderers in human history, but here’s the kicker: They’re legally allowed to commit atrocities.
If you guessed people involved with and who run the State, then you’re correct.
A dark and disturbing truth about history’s most evil, diabolical monsters
It’s not long until you learn a thing or two in Cursed Mage about how the world of Catenary operates.
Claim to see spirits? They’re throwing your ass into an institution. Resist the authorities? You’re facing the Huotaja, towering men and women dressed in long trench coats, Stetson hats, and denim. They’re trained to kill if they can’t subdue, and they’re all sword-wielding Mage Masters.
These people, along with the military-like Marsalkka, may act as special forces units in both domestic and foreign settings. They’re also bodyguards for the most prominent politicians in the nation of Vimsinew, a national security state not much different from the United States.
And given the mass surveillance technology fused into Catenarian Chronicles, if these people want to hunt you down, they will find you. If you’re a Mage, chances are, they’ll ship you to a Mage school, one of the many types of institutions out there.
But if you’re a normie, often called a Moor, and you claim ability? Oh, they’ll commit you and rewire your brain.
Catenarian Chronicles is 1984 masked as a dark paranormal fantasy
Watch phones? Every character has one, including Kaija. And guess what? Those watch phones display location settings. Hell, if the authorities want insight on who you are and how you operate, then they don’t need backdoor access. It’s not hard for them.
Those watches are de facto telescreens. Ditto for laptops, and even those smart televisions. Sure, you can move undetected, but you’d better hope you have a dissenter in either the Huotaja or Marsalkka on your side. If not, you ain’t gonna last long.
Ready to see this outright dystopia in action amidst a paranormal fantasy backdrop? Snag Cursed Mage right now and note all the times I mention traits of an Orwellian surveillance state. Because in Catenarian Chronicles, the line between fiction and reality is far thinner than you think.
