Beyond the Lost Horizon doesn’t ask for permission to exist and it doesn’t care who it offends. Those two traits define why it’s dominating book promos. Disclaimer: “This series contains strong political themes. It ain’t for Marxists, socialists, theocrats, neocons, whiners, the far-Left, the far-Right, or people who ace books on Goodreads because they read…
Stories about consent, choice, and liberty are too few and far in between. And most that exist skew left of center. It’s time to right the ship. Consent and choice are buzzwords these days, even among Leftist ideological literary mantras. They might even throw around the term liberty, or at least freedom. Then, they hit…
I’m a self-editor, and have been one since I wrote my first books. Some authors self-edit because it saves them money, but I had ulterior motives. Normies are trained to see self-sufficient libertarians as villains. Good. Let them call me a villain. I’ve long embraced the role anyway. Just ask hockey fans and they’ll tell…
A boatload of author blogs write about writing, the craft of what makes good fiction, their chosen genre, or a combo. These are stupid ideas. I’ll occasionally write a mundane post on genre fiction, which genres my books best fall into, or something along those lines. But I wasn’t about to make my author blog…
No matter how it’s spun, the corporate world sucks. That’s about as blunt as I can make it. Fortunately, it doesn’t need to be that way. Freelance work is the “get out of the corporate world” free card. And when I say freelance work, I don’t mean exclusively contract work for someone else. That’s the…
If you want your writing to shine, then break grammar rules if it means improving flow. You won’t be disappointed even if your English teacher will. I once heard someone say, “Write in a way that your high school English teacher would’ve given you a ‘C.’” Once I took that advice, shit started falling into…
It’s time for authors to see one another as allies in the fight against tyranny, even if we enter the game through different doors. I know a lot of authors and very, very few of them are libertarian. Even fewer are like me: Rothbardian, and someone who sees the State as pure evil. Without the…
Every author has that moment where someone asks, “Why aren’t you in Kindle Unlimited?” Often from people trained to think KU is a must. My answer has always been the same: I was never even tempted. KU was a non-starter for me from the first day I started building my universe. A lot of writers…
One of the most maddening quirks about ChatGPT is the way it underestimates readers and thinks it needs everything spelled out for them. I have smart readers who pick up on things quickly and expect me to tackle thought-provoking themes. But when I give a prompt that clearly says, “don’t hand-hold, trust the audience to…
Pressured into adopting progressive and leftist dogma at work? Don’t fear. You can still play your hand as a political dissident. Everywhere you look, companies preach “authenticity.” They tell you to “bring your whole self to work.” But that invitation only applies if your “whole self” fits the ideological box they’ve already approved. If you’re…
Experience and pain are the two greatest teachers. So, in hindsight, I’m happy to say that I screwed up a massive book promotion. In May 2025, I unleashed Spirit and Water to the world on Amazon and the other bookstores. Building on the momentum from all the positive feedback I’d gotten for Book I in my…
Stop waiting for agents or contests to bless you. Publish your book on your own terms and let readers, not gatekeepers, decide your worth. So many gatekeepers have fed writers the same lies. To paraphrase: “You need an agent to prove you’re good enough.” “Win a contest win to be taken seriously.” “A publishing deal…
