Sir David Mathew of Llandaff and Radyr was a Welsh knight and served as a Knight of the Body and Standard Bearer to King Edward IV. Let’s have a real talk—especially if your last name is Matthews, Mathews, or some variation of it. For decades now, people with our surname (yes, Marti is a pen…
What if the Sorting Hat came to Tamuria? Discover what Hogwarts reveals about the Cymraeg Tales heroes—and the deeper truths behind their destinies. If you’ve read Spirit and Water, you already know the nations of Tamuria and Cymraeg brim with mysticism, rebellion, and elemental mastery. But what if these characters crossed into the halls of…
Spirit and Fire and Cursed Mage unfold in different worlds and time periods, but share the same fight against power, control, and lies that keep people chained. They take place in different worlds, but ancient bloodlines rule them both. That said, Spirit and Fire and Cursed Mage were always cut from the same cloth. They…
Epic fantasy blows the doors off any small-scale story. If you’re looking for something with ultra-complex plots, you’ll love this subgenre of fantasy. These tales take place across massive worlds—realms teeming with magic, ancient kingdoms, ancient bloodlines, and ancient grudges that refuse to die. If grimdark shows you the cold, brutal truth and nobledark hands…
Nobledark fantasy shines in Cymraeg Tales, but why is it a good fit for the subgenre? There are actually a slew of reasons. Cymraeg Tales can come across as grimdark fantasy, but nobledark fantasy is a better label. I’ve already written why it would be wrong to label my dark epic fantasy series grimdark, but…

Epic fantasy and Bruce Springsteen don’t often go together. But one song’s lyrics inspired all of Spirit and Fire’s flashback scenes. While Bruce Springsteen’s politics are by few means libertarian, his music still rocks, politics be damned. Hey, we can’t judge people based exclusively on their worldviews, since there are more characteristics that make people…
Cymraeg Tales could come across as grimdark fantasy, but there are many reasons that point to the contrary. Some of which are kind of comical. Cymraeg Tales might be a bleak dark epic fantasy series, but it’s a stretch to call it grimdark fantasy. Instead, nobledark is more appropriate, since it lacks that ‘kill or…
Old world dark epic fantasy is a go-to genre when a slower, more complex read is in order. But we’re not talking about Game of Thrones. As one book launch came and went, I had another on deck for a while. Or, maybe the term ‘relaunch’ is more appropriate? As you know, I launched Cursed Mage on March…
Regardless of which books you’ll love in the Renegades Epic, you’ll find at least one prominent Spirit Master in each.
