Catenarian Chronicles ain’t no ‘all men are evil’ dark fantasy
If you read Catenarian Chronicles and think I fell for the ‘all men are evil’ fib, you’re lying to yourself because it’s far from the truth.
If an outsider didn’t know me any better, they’d think I’d fallen to Leftist “dogma” since I got a cast full of primarily women battling antagonistic men. There are outliers, with a few men siding with the ‘good girls’ and a couple women joining forces with the ‘bad guys.’ But in Cursed and Astray Mage, it’s almost one-dimensional.
Here’s the catch: It wasn’t intentional. Heck, not until I took Astray Mage through its first ‘sandpaper edit,’ something you might call a copy edit, did I realize this. At that point, I’d already done the damage after suffering from that oh shit moment.
But it’s not DEI, tokenism, wokeism, or some tirade against men. Hell, I’m a white guy from a Christian background (even if I’m obsessed with Germanic Paganism), and at least half of my ancestors came from Western Europe. What am I gonna do? Engage in self-hate?

I don’t owe you nothing, so don’t go there
As someone who spits on collectivism, I’ve never fallen for the collectivist mantra that goes something like, “the haves are the reason why we’re the have nots, so they’re obligated to owe us something.”
Sorry, not sorry, but I’m my own individual who was born in 1991. I never exploited minorities, owned slaves, treated women like hell, or tried throwing my weight around with local, state, and federal governments to gain an edge in the market.
I detest all of the above, and justify none of it. And even if I had ancestors who engaged in any of the above and got one over on others, the blame doesn’t fall on me because I, the individual, never conducted the act to begin with.
This section alone should tell you that neither Cursed, Astray, nor even their prequel, Deceived Mage, intentionally branded rich men as the bad guys, though a lot of rich men are in real life. Just look at the military-industrial complex, something rich men historically run.
I’ll voluntarily owe you something
I might sound like an outright prick in the above section, but don’t worry. Everyone with half a heart and a soul that ain’t a dark pit of void should still serve others.
And no, it doesn’t need to be through charity or the government gun, though I’ll support the former any day. Here’s what I will give you:
- Stories with kick-ass female protagonists, but not to prove a feminist point
- Alternative systems in those same stories run through peaceful voluntaryism
- Inspiration for you to write your own stories with those same themes
Informed entertainment, but with the “individuals vs. state” mentality, not women vs. men. In Catenarian Chronicles and several of my other book series, the women are just fighting against a State that men run, and nothing more.
So, it’s not a question of whether you hate men, but if you hate the State. And if you hate the State badly enough, chances are, you’ll love Cursed Mage. Check it out today at The Rebel Lore Vault, where algorithms don’t spy on everything you purchase.
