An imagined rendition in Elementals of Nordica, featuring a sword-wielding, cloaked figure, staring into a city that fuses modern-day and fantasy elements.

Elementals of Nordica is my most beautiful disaster

Elementals of Nordica will impress readers who don’t need their fiction to fit cleanly in any one genre. And it packs a lot of punches.

Before I wrote this piece, I went back and trashed six posts from May 2021. And wow, what a difference four and a half years makes. Back then, I didn’t know what the f*ck I was doing when it came to an author blog. And further, with Elementals of Nordica, I didn’t know the slightest thing about genre fiction.

Funnily enough, while I look back and say to myself, “What the hell was I writing?” when it came to all things blog-related, I’m ecstatic that I wrote Elementals the way that I did. I called it a “genre-bender,” and then I just wrote the damn story. Something that has since become my brand.

Elementals of Nordica is what you make of it

If you demand sanitized genre fiction, chances are, you’re putting down Wind Wielder after a few pages. The first scene alone will show you that this is where sci-fi clashes with fantasy, but with military and dystopian elements.

Oh, and there are sports involved, too, so you gotta enjoy those scenes. But I found early that readers generally didn’t mind the infusion of a sport that actually made sense except for the occasional asshat who couldn’t understand why I put thrashball in there. But they were few and far between.

Still, looking back on it, I couldn’t think of a more kick-ass way to start the Renegades Epic off with the bang it deserved. It told the reader, “Look, you ain’t getting sanitized fiction that colors inside the lines.” I’m breaking new ground and injecting something new to the game, so you’re either gonna love it or you ain’t. And if you don’t, there are about a million other authors to follow.

Enter Wind Master, Wind Keeper, and Wind Ruler

And if you think I was finished with Wind Wielder, you had another thing coming. Wind Master, a book that I loosely modeled after the memorable video game Army Men: Sarge’s Heroes, introduced you to portals between five different worlds.

Wind Keeper upped the ante and drove home metaphysical elements. And finally, Wind Ruler served as the first book of Trilogy II in Elementals of Nordica. It also doubled up as an interquel between Civil War and BattleFront, Books I and II in the sister series, Chronicles of Rondure.

Overall, Elementals of Nordica is experimental fiction that doesn’t slide into a true genre, even if fantasy is the most appropriate. It also serves as the nucleus to my other series: Chronicles of Rondure, Sentrys of Terrene, Catenarian Chronicles, Terrian Chronicles, and Cymraeg Tales.

So, if you crave something different and you’re sick of sanitized, safe fiction with predictable plot elements, then give Elementals a shot, starting with Wind Wielder.
