A large, bearded, Hagrid-like man with long curly hair smiles warmly while holding a small dragon, standing beside a massive dog in a rustic wizarding landscape. Behind him, a glowing castle rises on a hill at sunset, with a cozy cottage, lantern light, and autumn scenery creating a magical, cinematic atmosphere.

Harry Potter TV series should have race-swapped Hagrid

With Black Snape still dominating headlines for the Harry Potter TV series, race-swapping Hagrid would have clicked.

That doesn’t mean Hagrid should’ve been black. Even if the late, great Michael Clark Duncan would’ve been perfect for the role. But there’s another actor who’d have crushed Hagrid, and probably would’ve been more convincing than Nick Frost if he could pull off the accent.

That actor is Jorge Garcia, a “dude” of Cuban-Chilean descent known for portraying Hugo “Hurley” Reyes on Lost. Reyes was the “good guy,” the everyman, and an unsung hero. He also seemed out of place at times, which conveys some situations Hagrid finds himself in because of his size.

Since Reyes organically resembles Hagrid, the intense backlash we’ve gotten with characters like Black Snape would’ve gone by the wayside. Would there be backlash? In today’s world, there always is. But at least you’d get a guy who looks the part, has played similar parts, and isn’t too far off the radar from Hagrid’s age in Philosopher’s Stone, which is 62 and later, 63.

Harry Potter TV Series was always gonna have a race swap

Everyone and their mother knew a race swap was coming, thanks to the insane wokeism that still plagues entertainment. But there’s also a right and a wrong way to go about it. The worst way? Completely changing an origin story.

Someone like Garcia is Cuban-Chilean, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at him. When I watched Lost, I always said, “Who the hell is Jorge Garcia?” since I didn’t recall seeing a Hispanic dude (pun intended) on the show. At least not early on.

It wasn’t until a frenemy introduced me to Wikipedia did I start doing research. That’s when I put two and two together and realized Garcia played Hurley.

That said, there’s hardly a butterfly effect. You wouldn’t need to lean into Garcia’s Latin ancestry for this to work. With Black Snape, what happens in Season 5 when the Marauders are bullying a black kid in the 1970s? Some theories have said they need to make one of the Marauders black.

It can’t be James for obvious reasons. Lupin? Hell, he’s already marginalized as a werewolf. Pettigrew? Another black guy joining a racist gang? One who betrays his so-called friends? That leaves Sirius…Black. Quite the Catch 22.

I’m not rehashing hash I’ve written about regarding Snape’s origin story and how it makes the Paapa Essiedu casting the worst ever. The above paragraph alone points to its sheer stupidity.

Did the TV series cast an Unforgivable Curse?

Here’s the score. I previously said, “Like it or not, the series will be successful.” But that was before the infamous “ratio” came into play. There was no way in hell I’d have thought fans would ratio the trailer, so it’s already cast a likely Unforgivable Curse.

But will it rot in Azkaban with the Dementors? It’s facing an uphill climb. While Philosopher’s Stone will still probably bring in the ratings thanks to its novelty, the series could be on thin ice. We’ve seen stills of Black Snape and they were horrendous. We also saw a disproportionate influx of Indian students in 1991-92 Britain in another still.

What could keep the series from sinking? At this point? Stop lying to the fans.

You don’t need a TV series when you have books

Thankfully, the Harry Potter TV Series doesn’t need to be successful. We have books and movies, so we’re forever saved from Black Snape invading our minds. It’s one of many reasons why I write books — because the entertainment industry remains so dangerously woke.

Guess what? You won’t get any woke fiction in my work. Diversity? Organically. Not because I’m spewing “representation,” but more because I “character cast,” basing their physical characteristics on real-life people. That’s what gives each character a distinct look.

If you’re looking for work with pro-liberty themes that doesn’t dumb anything down or scream “inclusion” for the sake of it, then check out my library at The Rebel Lore Vault. The Harry Potter TV Series may’ve gone woke, but I’ve been writing for years and the powers that be won’t buy me out.
