Yote Diamondback stands at the center of a proud Scorpii Venom team photo, wearing a green-and-black #13 thrashball uniform with a scorpion logo. Her teammates surround her in matching uniforms on a wet outdoor court at twilight, looking intense, athletic, and ready to play, with helmets, stadium lights, and Arcane’s campus buildings behind them.

Introducing the Scorpii Venom in The Arcane Prophecy

Yote Diamondback plays for the Scorpii Venom and in The Arcane Prophecy, and you don’t get much background on them. But let’s meet them anyway.

Keeping them out was intentional, because the story’s locked on Yote’s first year, her Lamerth rejection, fight to belong at Arcane, elemental runic magic growth, family pressure, and most importantly, the secrets circling her before she understands just what the hell’s going on.

But I mentioned the Venom in passing since they give Yote a place to compete, a school identity to wear (the scorpion), and another reason to build a life away from the Diamondback household’s script.

That said, the full team mostly stays in the background.

But let’s meet them anyway.

The Scorpii Venom were always the Slytherin-first team

Scorpii School’s got a culture that rewards competition and doesn’t apologize for wanting to win. That’s why Yote lands in Scorpii to begin with — it’s the ultimate Slytherin House equivalent.

She’s dropped into a place with more edge than Arcane’s 31 other schools. Scorpii’s where confidence can turn abrasive, teammates get cocky as hell, and if you don’t own your ambition, you may as well leave.

So when I built out the Scorpii Venom roster behind the scenes, I leaned all the way into the Slytherin inspiration.

The names pull from the Death Eater / Slytherin family-name orbit because Scorpii carries that energy. These players are sharp, elite, intimidating, status-aware, and dangerous if you only judge them from the outside. You got Lestrange, Dolohov, Karkaroff, Black, Carrow, Greyback, Yaxley, Nott, Rosier, Wilkes, Travers, Parkinson, Mulciber, Macnair, Crouch — you know the names.

The Scorpii Venom are built to feel like the team readers think they already understand before Yote starts changing what the symbol means. They’re the green-and-black squad with the ugly reputation, a brutal competitive streak, names that sound like trouble, and enough confidence to make everyone else roll their eyes before the first whistle.

And in The Arcane Prophecy, they cause some eyerolls because they’re so young. That much is known. But they’re vicious.

Then Yote walks in wearing #13.

This roster gives Scorpii early rumblings for a later eruption

One of the things I wanted with the Venom was a team that sounded like it belonged to Scorpii before readers ever saw them play, and to convey one of the characters in Harry Potter who helped inspire Yote: Lord Voldemort.

So the names had to show readers EXACTLY what this team was all about. They had to sound like players who’d eventually chirp too much, knock opponents around, celebrate too loudly, and still have enough talent in later books to make the arrogance annoying because they earned the right to be a bunch of cocky intimidators.

Now here’s the roster for Book I.

You’ll get to know more than a few of them

We only have two freshmen here — Yote and Storm — a small number that’s normal for high school box thrashball. But there are a ton of sophomores, a few juniors, and a couple seniors. This team’s young so in Books 2 and 3, you’ll get to actually meet a few of the more interesting ones and THEY WILL become characters.

And if you’re looking to meet Yote and Storm early on, you can meet them in The Arcane Prophecy.
