Putting faces to names in the Catenarian Chronicles Part I
Who’s who in the Catenarian Chronicles? With the advent of AI, it’s now easier than ever to share what each character looks like in the dark paranormal fantasy.
AI has made such awesome strides that I constantly have to upgrade cover photos here at the blog just to keep up with it. These days, you can make character concepts in the same chat look so much alike, the deviations from one “photo” to another are minute.
That said, I felt the tech was finally there to share with you some cool concepts regarding four main characters in Book II Astray Mage. Three of whom make their respective debuts in Cursed Mage, Book I in Catenarian Chronicles.
Anyway, I’m done wasting your time. Check out those four characters below and be on the lookout for Part II, which will unveil Satu, Radclyffe, Heikki, and Katri.
The cover image above and the featured character isn’t the main act (Kaija), but Kaarina Taivalkoski. The reason I chose Kaarina to be featured is that she does not appear in Cursed Mage, but plays a prominent role in Astray Mage, and steals every scene she’s in. She’ll be a fan favorite.
What Kaija, Lilja, and Ella look like in the Catenarian Chronicles
Kaija
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get Kaija’s tattoo to work properly, which is a snake-out-of-water half-sleeve that wraps around her upper arm. But everything else worked perfectly, from her toned physique to her long, dark-brown and blue hair.
Kaija is a Water Mage, as you can see. And here, she’s at the famous lake that Linna Yliopisto, or Castle University, resides near.
You can’t see it from this angle, but her sword hilt is made from diamond. Diamond-hilted swords manifest in the hands of all Water Masters, and in Astray Mage, evolving into a Water Master is something Kaija must do if she’s to unearth a dark, dreary mystery.
Lilja
Don’t let Lilja’s brittle size fool you, because she’ll make you pay. Her backstory is tragic, and it gives her a Wonder Woman-like flair if you want a hint. But those hardships add fuel to her fire. In short, there isn’t a single soul she doesn’t match up well against, despite her small size.
Overall, I felt the AI did a tremendous job here, capturing Lilja’s small build, her long, brown hair that’s a shade lighter than Kaija’s, and the way her Sword of Earth’s tip is sending boulders jetting upward. My only gripe is that I wish her sword hilt was a little more silver to better match the texts, but this works.
Her attire is also on-point, and it matches what she wears in Astray Mage almost to a T. I always pictured emerald to be her color, and this image drives it home.
Ella
Ella doesn’t have a sword because she hasn’t yet reached Master Status in her Fire Mage ability. But that doesn’t mean this spitfire won’t hurt you if you try her. Ella, descended from a long lineage of ultra-powerful Mages, is no joke in a battle, even when there isn’t a sword in her hand.
As for the image itself, this one works, even if some might say, “The girl doesn’t even look human.” That’s just fine, because Ella’s known for her near-mystical looks. Looks that turn the heads of about every guy who ventures within a few feet of her.
If she were a Harry Potter character, Ella would be half-Veela, half-human. She’s a charmer who will literally burn you if you’re not careful, and she won’t think twice about it. Even if you’re her flesh and blood. Still, she holds a deep, dark secret that’ll be unleashed as the series progresses, and one you can gain insight on by downloading the prequel novella to Catenarian Chronicles, Deceived Mage.
Meet these girls in Cursed Mage
Kaija, Ella, and Lilja all appear in Cursed Mage, a slow-burn dark paranormal fantasy that doesn’t put a sword in any of their hands early on. Ella is already living at Linna Yliopisto, while Kaija just wants to go to college at Fenn University, graduate, and enjoy a long, successful career.
But fate doesn’t work out that way. Kaija notices strange things happening around her rich uncle’s home and it’s not long until those strange things start happening to her. First, Kaija chats it up with drowned ghosts before she realizes she also controls the water element.
How can she control water and see spirits at the same time? It makes no sense until Kaija discovers that she has a rarer than rare ability. One that she should see as a blessing; so far, she feels like she’s cursed. Check out Cursed Mage today at The Rebel Lore Vault and find out why that is.
