The school where Yote finds a home: Scorpii

ByTC Marti

Scorpii School isn’t Gryffindor Tower by any means. But it’s Yote Diamondback’s solace when she’d rather isolate herself from the world.

Scorpii School at a glance

  • Slogan: Koti suuria pyrkimyksiä varten (A home for great ambitions)
  • Founder: Korra Scorpii
  • Colors: Forest green and black
  • Nickname: Venom
  • Notable Students: Yote Diamondback, Storm Sharpe
  • Notable Alumni: Ukko Sharpe, Coy Canyon, Rayne Grimbane
  • Rival Schools: Leonid (primary), Volantis, Halcyon
  • Hogwarts House Equivalent: Slytherin (with a few outliers)

As with students valuing specific personality traits for each House in Harry Potter, the same goes at Arcane. The difference? Scorpii is one of 32 schools. Yeah, that’s a lot, so there’s overlap.

Scorpii students value ambition, and they rarely settle in and get complacent. They also don’t master a single learning style. Instead, those learning styles may vary by the day. A Scorpii could be a visual learner one day, and auditory the next, making them some of the most layered students in the academy.

How I came up with Scorpii School’s name and colors

I used to write about the NHL. When I came up with The Arcane Prophecy, the Arizona Coyotes had just finished playing their last game and relocated to Utah.

Arizona’s move was one reason I rolled with 32 schools, with each corresponding to either a current or former NHL team. For Scorpii, instead of forging them after the Utah Mammoth, I instead modeled them with the Coyotes’ look.

Scorpii is a nod to one of the finalists for the Coyotes’ name from way back when: Scorpions. The forest green and black scheme was dominant on the team’s sweater. Finally, Venom serves a dual role: Scorpions’ stingers are venomous. Venom was also one of many names considered for the Mammoth, giving Scorpii a subtle link to Utah.

You’ll meet more Scorpiis than anyone else

The Arcane Prophecy by TC MartiSince Yote Diamondback (also named after the Coyotes) is in Scorpii, it’s her home base. You’ll get an inside look at those luxury suites she and her friends live in when they’re not going to a gathering or tearing it up on the thrashball court.

Recurring characters like Storm Sharpe, his Gang of Idiots (compare them to the Marauders), and Imperia Frost are all Scorpiis.

Since Yote is in Scorpii School, a strong contingent of her instructors also went to Scorpii during their high school days. That said, graduating from Scorpii isn’t a requirement to teach there.

If you’re the ambitious type who gets bored easily, chances are, you’d be a Scorpii, too. And you can catch Yote’s ambitious streak in the first three chapters of The Arcane Prophecy. Check them out now, and watch Yote seek to prove herself against a sibling adversary.
