Unexplained paranormal activity at my parents’ house
My parents’ house has been a hotbed for paranormal activity in 2025, and Yours Truly approached it from skeptic land until the inevitable happened.
Here’s an atomic truth bomb: You don’t imagine everything you can’t explain.
Since I unleashed Cursed Mage, something strange has been going on at my parents’ house. Things that shouldn’t happen, which I’ve tried to logically explain.
Some I’ve seen for myself. Others, my parents saw. But none of them sit right with me.
Let me back the hell up.
A house with a year I’d rather forget
In September 2024, my grandmother passed.
Not long after, my parents’ dog left the mortal realm on October 17th. The house felt quieter since.
Then in March, things started happening, and they haven’t really stopped.
The haunted couch…
It started small. A pillow leaning at a 45-degree angle against the back of the couch—just like most people set it—ended up on the floor.
My mother picked it up, reset it, walked out of the room, and not long after, it happened again.
That wasn’t the only incident with that couch.
On two separate occasions, paw prints appeared on that same couch. And not vague, smudgy outlines either. Clear, precise impressions.
My parents kept plaster molds of their dog’s paws—and yes, they match. Same size, same shape.
Hell, I’d seen those prints regularly for almost 12 years. The damn things are no different than they were when she had a mortal body.
Then the light switch flicked upward
Last week, I visited. My mom and I were in the kitchen when the overhead light turned on by itself.
No one touched the switch, and this house isn’t new—my parents have lived there for 27 years. In all that time, they’ve never had electrical issues.
Land collapsing in the backyard? Check. Plumbing issues? Check. AC croaking? Check. But the power’s never went berserk.
She asked me if that light came on, and I said, “It did.” It didn’t feel malicious. Just… present.
There has to be a logical explanation for this, yeah?
Believe me, I’ve tried.
Here’s what I’ve considered (and ruled out):
-
Bad wiring? Not likely. No history of electrical issues in nearly three decades.
-
Airflow or drafts? I gave this serious thought. But a draft strong enough to knock a pillow over would need to hit it just right, and wouldn’t repeatedly while the pillow was firmly angled against the couch.
-
Apophenia? That’s when the brain tries to force patterns or meaning onto randomness. Maybe that fits some stories, but not here. Not with photographic evidence and real prints to match.
-
Shared hallucination? Multiple people, in different scenarios, seeing the same thing? No. My mom and dad saw the couch and paw prints. I was there for the kitchen light.
It’s not mass delusion, and it’s not grief. These events are spaced out. They escalate slightly, then pause for a while. But they return just enough to make you question what’s real.
So… What is it?
I’m not ready to slap a label on it. “Ghost” seems too easy. “Energy” might be closer. Whatever it is, it’s tied to memory, presence, and love that refuses to disappear.
It doesn’t feel threatening. It’s more like a whisper, a trace, or a visit. If that sounds crazy, then maybe more of us have been ignoring signs than we care to admit.
Not proof of paranormal activity, but…
The paw prints were photographed and the pillow movements have been noted. I saw the light turn on.
I’m not saying this is proof of the paranormal, but I am saying we haven’t explained it yet.
Have you ever experienced something that made you question reality, even just for a second?
Yes? No? Maybe? Well, I’ll tell you who has, and that’s Kaija Jokiharju, my main character in Cursed Mage.
For years, Kaija thought she was some normal girl until she started chatting it up with a drowned ghost. But that ghost was a catalyst for something far bigger and more dangerous than Kaija could’ve imagined.
Oh, and it’s worth mentioning that Kaija’s the next target in this big, dangerous web of conspiracy. Yeah, it’s a little more than dark paranormal fantasy.
Maybe it’s a plea for you to see something most normies refuse to acknowledge exists. And that it’s not ghosts you need to be scared of, but monsters who try to control your life from the moment you’re born.
