Two girls in a young adult fantasy setting featuring a magic academy

Upcoming young adult fantasy series screams Harry Potter

Harry Potter may be the single best book series ever concocted, and my upcoming young adult fantasy series took a lot of inspiration from it.

A little over a year ago, I was browsing Quora and came across an interesting question and fan-fiction response related to an alternate Harry Potter timeline. Now, I’m not gonna spoil the fun, because you’ll know where my looming young adult fantasy series is going, whose prequel novella you can download free of charge.

Anyway, you can expect quite a few familiar tropes to arguably the best book series ever created:

  • A setting that becomes a character
  • That same setting holds a plethora of secrets
  • A character whose ‘mark’ becomes a distinguishing feature
  • A relative who loves to bully them

But there are some differences, I’m not gonna lie. See, at Arcane Elemental Academy, our ‘first years’ are freshmen in high school.

Also, there are more than four “Houses,” and I quote that because I don’t call them Houses. Instead, there are 32 schools within this academy, each catering to a different set of learning styles.

And finally, magic isn’t so random, as is the case at times in Potter. Nope, instead it’s straight-up elemental magic, with five elements – earth, fire, air, water, and spirit – present.

If you’ve read and loved anything and everything in my Renegades Epic, chances are, you’re in for a real treat. The only exceptions? No sword and sorcery, and characters aren’t bound to control just a single element (under most circumstances).

And if you hated my Renegades Epic – let’s face it; not everyone loves good old-fashioned bending between different subgenres of fantasy containing science fiction, dystopian, and military elements – you’re also in for a real treat. Arcane Elemental Academy fits into the young adult academy fantasy genre like a glove.

The only real difference you’re getting here is that I’m back in an alternative world – the World of Xadis, if one had a name for it.

Anyway, I can’t wait to share more of my inspirations behind it, including a few nonfiction works I’ve been devouring on Spotify lately. Stay tuned for character profiles, comparisons between Arcane and Potter, inspiration for the magical system, and so much more.

Ready to see what I’ve really got? Download the free prequel novella to The Arcane Prophecy and decide for yourself if this academy fantasy lives up to the hype, or leaves Renegades Epic in the dust.
