What motivated a Star Wars retelling, anyway?

Sentrys of Terrene is a Star Wars retelling, but one that fuses elemental magic, post-apocalyptic dystopian concepts, and military fantasy.

Before you ask: Yes, Sentrys is spelled that way on purpose. It looked better on the cover, so I kept it. Also, before you ask me what the hell’s this trilogy about, I thought I’d let you know upfront: A girl who bucks compliance in a totalitarian society. There. That’s the skinny.

Here’s how I concocted it. In late 2021, I outlined a trilogy that was supposed to involve Germanic/Norse gods and goddesses living here on Midgard, while their sons and daughters banded together to ward off perceived threats. Libertarian fantasy rich in runelore and Germanic Paganism at its finest.

But that became a tale for another time when I started writing content for a Star Wars fan site in early 2022. I retooled the existing work into a retelling of the original trilogy, while fusing it into my shared universe, the Renegades Epic.

A Star Wars retelling doubling as an “interquel trilogy”

You can read Sentrys of Terrene and immediately catch Star Wars vibes. Chances are, you’ll understand the entire trilogy, even if there are a few what the fuck moments, since characters from other series make grand appearances.

Ideally, I’ve set this one up as a great series to read after you devour the first two books in my military science fantasy series, Elementals of Nordica, Wind Wielder and Wind Master. After reading Wind Master, you’ll know why.

But if you’re ingrained in the hero’s journey, which follows our main protagonist, Sabre Kjaergaard, love retellings but with a variation in genre, and crave complex plots, then this action-packed series is for you, even if you decided not to pregame with Elementals of Nordica.

Oh, then there are the countless NHL references, so I thought I’d forewarn you there. Then again, when the main character’s name is Sabre, you should know a thing or two where this is going.

And if you’re curious about who the random characters popping in are, you’ll catch them in Elementals of Nordica, Terrian Chronicles, and Catenarian Chronicles. They all have deep and unique backstories, and the more you read them, the more sense both Sentrys of Terrene and the entire Renegades Epic makes.

Starting things off lightly with The Rebellion Awakens

The Rebellion Awakens by TC MartiThe Rebellion Awakens doesn’t have all the crazy complexities that you’ll find in Books II and III in the trilogy. Think of it as the lighter, simpler plot before things explode.

And if you love Star Wars, you’ll get a kick out of my characters and make immediate comparisons. Sabre is your Luke Skywalker, Ren Elk-Jaer is your Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Venn Rhine is a lot like Darth Vader.

But there are differences, don’t worry. Sabre’s no farmgirl. She’s a city girl who’s still in high school, and wondering how the hell everyone around her can be so compliant. Compliant and unusually happy, despite the way they’re subjected to someone else’s time 24/7.

It’s Soviet-style communism but with a creepy-ass smile. Catch her exact thoughts on this society and watch her life turn upside down when she decides she wants no part of it in The Rebellion Awakens.
