Who is Jackie Cozens? (The estranged sibling)
Jackie Cozens may be the most mysterious character in Beyond the Lost. You’ll know everything about Jackie without even meeting her.
When you read the Beyond the Lost trilogy, a dystopian survival series that depicts life in America after a brutal coordinated terrorist attack, you will ask yourself one burning question after meeting the main character, Quinn Cozens: Will I ever meet his sister, Jackie Cozens, after I know everything about her? The answer? You’ll have to read the entire series to find out.
While you’ll discover a lot about Jackie in the books, I wanted to give you some tidbits here to paint an even clearer picture before you knock yourself out with Beyond the Lost Horizon.
What does Jackie Cozens look like?
She’s an athletic girl who played sports in high school. While I don’t give any specifics in Beyond the Lost other than the fact she played soccer, it’s possible she played two or even three sports.
So picture a girl with an athletic, yet petite build who stands at around five feet, four inches tall. Her eyes are misty blue, and her skin is a perfect ivory. Her hair is straight, jet-black, and runs just past her shoulders.
She has delicate facial features that carry a hint of sharpness, and a cute, charming smile. Around the time she and Quinn stopped talking, Jackie wore form-fitting shirts, jeans, and high-top sneakers.
What made Jackie hate Quinn?
I’ll never reveal whether Jackie outright hates Quinn or if she just won’t talk to him. But their estrangement came because of Quinn’s ambitions.
Think of Jackie as the “good child” and Quinn as the one who challenged his parents on almost everything. Jackie’s the one who did things by the textbook. She played the game of school well, graduated around the top of her class, went to college, got the career she wanted while in her early twenties, and married a well-to-do man.
Jackie also kept up with and followed all the mainstream trends, meaning her worldview sat further left of Quinn’s politically. She embraced about every green initiative, and if she wasn’t driving around in an electric vehicle, she was doing something to help bolster renewable energy. And she always made time for her family.
As for Quinn? He was the opposite. Quinn had ambitions and never cared about who he slighted or how they felt after he slighted them.
If it meant sacrificing time with loved ones, what’d he care? They’d be there, he’d think to himself. Until they weren’t. It was something Quinn was never aware of, and Jackie, the younger sibling by six years, was.
Quinn’s antics, his recklessness, and self-centeredness turned Jackie off. She’d talk to everyone else in the family, but if she and Quinn crossed paths, it was an awkward “hello” at best.
Beyond the Lost Horizon reveals Quinn’s thoughts
In Beyond the Lost Horizon, you’ll get a boatload of clues regarding Quinn and his falling out with Jackie. I’ve laid out a lot of groundwork here at the blog, too, but nothing conveys exactly what Quinn’s feeling more than his body language, thoughts, and emotions when Jackie enters his mind.
When society collapses and everything goes to hell, it doesn’t matter how much someone like Quinn and a close relative like Jackie couldn’t stand one another. She’ll still force her way into Quinn’s mind, and he’ll wonder if she at least survived the onslaught.
But considering all the violence, bloodshed, and destruction Quinn had seen as he and K-pop idol Yui Kikuchi try to escape the madness? Jackie’s chances at surviving this are next to none. Heck, they’re so bleak that even Slim left town and None had to fend for itself.
Anyway, get full insights on Quinn’s thoughts and feelings by downloading the 37,000-word novella, and maybe he’ll remind you of a rather famous literary character.
