Images of Goldbacks about to enter a modern, outdoor marketplace filled with independent merchants.

Why Goldbacks belong in a world built on real value

Goldbacks are money the way money should be: Tangible, finite, and rooted in a private commodity people value — not government decree.

Most people think money has value because a government says it does. They see those green pieces of paper, those numbers on a screen, and assume that’s wealth.

But fiat currency is a false promise backed by politicians and central bankers. The same cartel that spends trillions, devalues your savings, and calls it economic growth.

What are Goldbacks?

Goldbacks are a physical, spendable form of money made of real gold. Instead of coins or heavy bars, they’re thin, flexible notes where a precise amount of gold is permanently embedded inside a durable polymer. Imagine a dollar bill that actually is gold, measured down to a thousandth of an ounce — that’s a Goldback.

They were designed to solve a simple problem:

  • Gold has value, but it’s not practical for everyday use. You can’t shave off slivers of a coin to pay for groceries or tip your barista.

Goldbacks make gold divisible, portable, and spendable. A way to bring hard money back into the real world, one transaction at a time.

How they work

Each Goldback contains 1/1000th of an ounce of gold (or more), sealed between transparent polymer layers so nobody can remove the gold without destroying the note.

They come in denominations of 1/2, 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100, each containing more gold than the last. That means you can hold a fraction of an ounce in your hand, and still buy a coffee, a sandwich, or a handmade product at a local market.

Every design on a Goldback tells a story. The artwork represents classical virtues — Liberty, Justice, Prudence, Truth, Harmony — the kind of values fiat currency abandoned over a century ago. Each one feels like an artifact of a freer world, a reminder that sound money is about more than economics.

Why they matter

Inflation-Proof

When governments “print money” out of thin air, your purchasing power drops. Goldbacks don’t play that game. They’re made of actual gold, so they hold intrinsic value regardless of what central banks do. To paraphrase Tom Woods: “The Fed can print money, but they can’t print gold.”

Tangible & Decentralized

No bureaucrat can “print” more Goldbacks or freeze your account. They exist outside the banking system and put real money in your hands.

Divisible Gold

Before Goldbacks, using gold in everyday life required a few hoops to jump through. Now, gold is fractional and fluid, practical for trade at the local level. It’s freedom in spendable form.

Voluntary Currency

Here’s the kicker: Goldbacks aren’t legal tender. They spread through voluntary exchange. People accept them because they recognize real value when they see it.

That’s what liberty looks like: Consent defining value, not coercion.

How to explain Goldbacks to strangers

If you’re trying to describe Goldbacks to someone new to the idea, keep it simple:

  • “Imagine if dollar bills were made of actual gold, not paper.”

  • “They’re like gold-backed gift cards, but the gold is already inside.”

  • “They let you use gold for everyday purchases, without melting coins or carrying bars.”

That’s it. No smoke and mirrors, and no politics. Just sound money that works in the real world.

Why they belong in The Arcane Prophecy

The Arcane Prophecy by TC MartiIn The Arcane Prophecy, I’m building a world where societies clash over value, and the illusion of control — the same battles we’re fighting right now. Goldbacks fit into that framework.

They embody real versus fake value, a theme that runs deep through my fiction. They’re a real-world example of decentralized money, standing in quiet defiance of the inflated systems coercion props up.

And visually, they’re stunning. Each Goldback looks like a sacred artifact.

In a world flooded with artificial everything, from digital currency to virtue and meaning, Goldbacks are the opposite. They’re solid, honest, and physical proof that freedom and value still exist outside centralized systems.

That’s why I’m bringing them into my universe. In both fiction and reality, the future belongs to those who trade in truth.

Meet Yote Diamondback before the journey

Before The Arcane Prophecy introduces the Goldback economy and the anarcho-capitalist society of Aurora Village and the surrounding region, you’ll meet Yote Diamondback — a fourteen-year-old Elemental torn between loyalty, fear, and the instinct to question everything she’s been taught.

Yote’s about to cross paths with a culture built on voluntary exchange, merit, and self-ownership, the same ideals Goldbacks represent. The journey from conformity to liberty is the heart of her awakening. Read the first three chapters now, and get to know her a little before she treks to Arcane.
