Why I chose the indie author path (and why I’m not looking back)
Self-published author, indie author, call it whatever the hell you want. But let me tell you why I’ve always preferred the self/indie path over traditional.
Let’s clear something up: I didn’t self-publish because I couldn’t get a traditional deal. I self-published because I refused to beg for permission to tell the stories I needed to tell, like Beyond the Lost.
In a publishing industry with corporate gatekeeping, sensitivity readers, and sanitized narratives, the indie path isn’t just a career choice; it’s a philosophical stand.
I write books that challenge the establishment. I explore controversial themes that’ll make establishment conservatives and leftists cry, and I weave libertarian values, forbidden history, pagan roots, and raw emotional truth into my work.
That don’t fit neatly into a politically-correct, PR-obsessed New York marketing memo. And frankly, I don’t want it to.
When you read my books, you’re not getting a committee-approved product. You’re getting a direct transmission from me to you. There are no filters, compromises, or apologies.
Some still cling to the fib that traditional publishing is a stamp of quality. But quality don’t come from a logo.
Craft, conviction, and the courage to say what others won’t
I stand with the indies because we’re the ones:
-
Taking creative risks
-
Building direct relationships with readers
-
Publishing when the work is ready, not when the calendar says so
-
Owning our voices, and our rights, without compromise
This isn’t a fallback plan. It’s the future of publishing, and the future is now. And if that makes me an outsider, good. That’s exactly where I want to be.
Check out a work from this indie author
Want to check out one of my self-published/indie works, whatever term you prefer? Of course, you do, or else you wouldn’t have made it this far. Why not start with a book with a protagonist who’s an establishment outsider, even if they were born in the establishment?
Meet Ella Kinnunen, a sixteen-year-old girl who uncovers one of the deadliest and most disturbing plots you’ll ever see in fiction. But a plot that, unfortunately, our own government here in the States could unleash if they wanted to. And if that’s not a horror story for you, then I don’t know what is.
