Woke culture made my old day job a living hell
Bad directors may have fueled my exit route, but the second I witnessed my old day job’s woke culture, I started clawing for a way out.
Performative nonsense. That’s the vibe I got the last time I worked for a global corporation. DEI, ESG, and other initiatives that make these smug people talk about taking moral high grounds. As for the company I worked for, its founder’s kid at something like autism. May’ve been Down Syndrome. I’m not really sure, who needs details, anyway?
While those with autism and Down Syndrome are remarkable — I’ve met many of them — I felt like this person went out of their way to pedestal their kid. Pedestal as in using them as leverage for “spreading inclusion” messaging. They also had (at least) three kids, yet in most photos, you only saw them with the one I mentioned. In meetings, they talked about their kid often, especially when “inclusion” topics came up.
In fact, if you missed it, you’d think they didn’t even have two other kids. Their actions were a major reason I don’t see any moral high ground regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, or anything related to them. It’s also why I keep repeating “performative.”
The parent company was grounded in woke culture
My first day on the job was Jan. 29, 2024. The editorial director spoke fondly about the causes this company was involved in. The topic at play? Abortion. They spoke about how women working for the company went to abortion clinics in droves, volunteered in any way they could, and helped those getting them cope.
My first thought? These people are disgusting. I’m not for abortion bans, don’t get me wrong. That would just open another black market we don’t need. Still, no matter how you look at it, you’re taking away a life, regardless of whether it begins at conception or at another point down the road.
During our first orientation meeting in Feb. 2024, guess the topic: DEI. An entire hour’s worth of DEI. Honestly, I kept my camera off for that one because they didn’t need to see my facial expression or the snarky comments I made to myself.
And yes, they pulled out statistics. So don’t think for a single second that DEI equals hiring blindly and based on merit. That’s the biggest fucking lie in the book. At least from my experience.
This global company was a cancer in wokeism
Then, of course, there were the ERG & Allies and similar organizations. My editorial director sat on both its board and the company’s DEI board. And they never missed a chance to highlight “progress.”
When we brought on freelancers to run our sites, they never missed a chance to say, “I love this hire because it gives us yet another female.” Or, “We now have a quarter of our sites run by females.” Or, “It gives us another female to train up and hopefully get into a full-time role.”
Again, DEI isn’t merit-based. It’s pedestaling people based on physical characteristics. That makes DEI every bit as wrong as prioritizing white Christian men over everyone else. And no, it doesn’t improve anything. It keeps people divided, and even goes as far as to spread mistrust.

People lost their shit in Nov. 2024
Look, I hate Donald Trump. Seriously, he’s another John McCain — a man who wins every election even when he loses elections. Still, the blue wave at my workplace — both domestic and foreign — had a collective stroke.
One employee posted this into the public Slack channel: “We need to remember to take care of our mental health at this time.” Of course, about the entire company “applauded” them. Probably with the performative, “Thank you for making this courageous statement” mantra, though I didn’t care enough to dive into the comments.
The editorial director — that same editorial director — talked about how a few employees blew up their phone. The way they worded it, they spent most of the night “talking them off a cliff.”
Imagine being so weak in the mind that a presidential election causes you to go all catnip. Again, this is coming from a guy who neocons would accuse of having TDS. Well, if Trump didn’t lie about his campaign “promises,” I wouldn’t lean toward TDS now, would I? Trump did this to himself, kiddos!
Don’t even get me started on February, March, and June
You know where I’m going with this. February: Black History Month. March: Women’s History Month. June: Pride Month. Each group has their own noble people and noble people should be recognized for their impressive feats.
The problem? At this company, it was one gigantic mask. Instead, it was all about them overcoming marginalization — primarily from (white) men. I attended the Women’s Recognition Event in March 2024 for confirmation.
I was disappointed. Mainly because the confirmation was worse than I ever imagined. The event started with a lecture about how obnoxious men are. It went on with nonstop talk featuring personal stories that highlighted how terrible the men in their lives were. What a propaganda show.
I attended a similar Pride Event in June. Again, to gain confirmation. This wasn’t a full-scale raid against heterosexual Christian men. But still, they didn’t miss a chance to bash Christianity, capitalism, and all sorts of other isms. I left that event thinking to myself, “How can people be so stupid to fall for this when there are decent white Christian men all around them?”
A job I would have loved to have kept
If it didn’t get any worse, the “girl boss” entered in Feb. 25 and I knew where this was going. For starters, I sniffed out that this was a DEI hire from the get-go. This was someone who freaked out over the smallest things, stressed out unlike anyone I’d ever worked under in my life, and was one of those people you could never give an adequate answer to.
I remember her asking me a question — any question — and I’d often get one of the following back:
- I don’t know what the logic is in this
- Walk me through your logic, because I don’t know what you mean
- Well, I’m trying to understand why you’re doing things this way
After a few months of that going on, I concluded it was deliberate. She didn’t want a correct answer. She wanted to push back. Why? Probably because of the position she landed in. That’s speculation, but what else can I conclude?
Oh, and this is coming from a guy who sacrificed weekends and got up early to write content. Come our company-wide quarterly meeting, it was a lost cause. The senior director recognized her. The conformist senior director.
I will never work for a company with woke culture again
I came, saw, and got the hell out of that place. Toxic? Put it this way: toxic if you didn’t bow down to their dogmas. But don’t read this and think I’m complaining here. I’m not, because it set me on a better path.
One that I wouldn’t have embarked on if I didn’t witness the one-sided woke culture and DEI mantras. Or meetings that were supposedly about recognition of women and historically marginalized groups. Only they weren’t so much about recognition as much as they were about spitting on white Christian men.
Another author once asked me: Why so many female protagonists? I didn’t have an answer then. But my subconsciousness has one now: Probably because I love strong female protagonists who aren’t girl bosses.
Ready to meet them? My pro-liberty work at The Rebel Lore Vault is full of strong female protagonists. Best yet, none of them are woke men-haters.
