Arcane Elemental Academy will have how many books?
Going into writing Arcane Elemental Academy, I anticipated one less book than I outlined. That’s because the series deserves a grand finale.
The Arcane Prophecy is the first in what’ll be a five-book series. As for what I’m calling the rest of the titles? That’s for me to know and you to find out. Book II lands September 1, 2027, one year after Book I. Then it’s a steady march — ’28, ’29, ’30 — one a year until the saga slams shut.
If you binge read, you’ll be pretty pissed off at the long wait between releases. But hey, that’s why I wrote a massive f*cking backlist. Trust me, if you transform into a superfan of my ultra-complex elemental magical systems and plots, you got plenty of time to kill.
Bonus points if you crave shared universes that fit like a puzzle but would confuse simple minds. So if you love them, then as they say in Finland, paljon onnea, because you’re smart enough to “get” the stories.
Theme first in Arcane Elemental Academy, genre second
I’ve spoken so many times about how Robert Murphy’s Chaos Theory helped inspire The Arcane Prophecy’s setting, and how educational entrepreneurship heads up the major theme.
But here’s what you don’t know: Books II through V will boast an anarcho-capitalist/libertarian theme as its core plot element, one per book.
And when you read and enjoy The Arcane Prophecy – because who wouldn’t fall head over skates for a young adult fantasy series where Harry Potter collides with Chaos Theory – you’ll know what Book II’s primary plot element and theme will look like.
Of course, I’m not giving any spoilers here, because whether you’re reading this piece next year or even five years from today, you’re gonna buy the book if you plan on seeing what happens. I don’t run charities, alright?
And here’s another warning: If you crave cookie-cutter genre fiction over theme-based/literary styles, you’re reading the wrong books.
Sequel series?
Yeah, I’ll be 39 once I’m finished with Arcane Elemental Academy, but for readers who know me, they know I got over 100 outlines for books in all kinds of genres, including a sequel series or two.
Is there one for Arcane? Maybe. But I’m also not one of those authors who’ll write a sequel series or reboot a series for the sake of it. Especially since, in my experience, a series can get stupid after so many books, with the author either recycling plots or hitting a wall where there’s no longer a character arc.
If Yote Diamondback and Company can grow, then yeah, a sequel’s on the docket. If there’s no more story to unpack, then no.
Anyway, if you wanna know more about Yote and how her saga begins, read the first three chapters of The Arcane Prophecy. If it feels like recycled YA, close the tab. When it reads like the start of something smarter, you’ve found your series.
