What if the cast of Beyond the Lost were Elementals?
Each character in Beyond the Lost fits an elemental archetype. So, I decided to take a deep dive, wondering where some of the most memorable characters aligned.
Beyond the Lost is my very first book series that occurs in neither the Renegades Epic (six series of fantasy genre-fusion novels) nor the Elementals Universe (any novel with elemental magic that is NOT in the Renegades Epic).
But I thought I’d have some fun, so I asked myself, “What if Quinn Cozens and them were Elementals? Which element would they control based on their traits or personality?”
Even without runes, magic, or elemental sigils, every character in Beyond the Lost carries the DNA of an elemental archetype.
Quinn Cozens – Fire
Fire runs deep in Quinn’s veins, given his never-say-die personality. He’s fiercely protective of those around him, and isn’t afraid to put himself on the line if it means someone around him can live another day.
Yui Kikuchi – Wind
There’s more than meets the eye to the sharp-tongued Yui Kikuchi. She’s graceful and intelligent, but given her strong personality, Yui would be a Wind Elemental if she appeared in the Elementals Universe. Just like the wind, Yui can be harmless and breezy, or she can be deadly and dangerous.
Martin – Water
Martin is one of a few characters listed to first appear in Book II, Beyond the Lost Assault. He’s a deadly calm man, with the ability to exert control in a chaotic world with his mere imposing presence. That makes Martin a Water Elemental.
Ajay – Earth
Ajay is a hard-nosed girl who also first appears in Beyond the Lost Assault. She’s ingrained her worldview, even when there may be substantial evidence against it. Because of her refusal-to-break demeanor, Ajay would be an Earth Elemental.
Erika – Spirit
Also debuting in Book II, Erika may be the most interesting character in the series. Beautiful and smart, she’s the only one in my dystopian survival trilogy who may be the “bridge” between Beyond the Lost and the Elementals Universe since her intellect, ability to see in pitch black, and to pick up on foreign concepts quickly border on the supernatural. That would make her a Spirit Elemental.
Jonas – Smoke
Jonas is the deceptive type. There one minute, gone the next, but someone who sifts through Quinn’s memory like smoke. They are cousins, after all. But whereas Quinn would control fire, Jonas would control the unorthodox Smoke Element.
There is a plethora of characters in the Beyond the Lost trilogy, but to kick things off, I didn’t want to introduce so many of them that I’d be risking spoilers. Still, the six listed above are worth learning about and knowing.
No guarantees they’ll survive the trilogy, and that becomes apparent in Book I, Beyond the Lost Horizon. Find out which of the above characters who do appear in the 37,000-word novella survive, and which won’t live to see Book II. Check it out at my personal store, The Rebel Lore Vault.
