A wide digital painting of seven female protagonists standing in a gritty fantasy landscape. Each woman displays her elemental powers: Liza Fury with fire swirling around her hands, Kaija Jokiharju surrounded by ghostly water-spirits, Yote Diamondback with wind-runes spiraling around her, Mina Hirai breaking chains in shadow, Sabre Kjaergaard aiming toward falling drones, Tarja Titan glowing with Spirit energy, and Mali LaSalle standing before a cracked palace gate with burning runes. The background mixes ruined towers, stormy skies, and authoritarian structures.

7 strong female protagonists you’ll fall in love with

My work is full of strong female protagonists, except for the cliched “boss girl.” If that’s what you’re here for, then clear out.

There’s an empire called Amazon that’s designed to shape minds using an algorithm and will cater to your needs if you want a boss girl. Which, quite frankly, Yours Truly finds unattractive as hell.

Instead, a good deal of my work involves females who hit back. Not because they hate men, or that they’re pissed off every second of the day, or wish to bring down the right-wing, fascist hierarchy or whatever other nonsense they spew.

Nah. These girls are all pretty faces, at least in my eyes. They’re in sound physical shape, and exert powerful mastery over their respective elements. Keep reading for a rundown of each.

1 – Liza Fury (Terrian Chronicles)

I’ll tell ya right now, Liza Fury is one character who will just piss off the Left. She’s a bisexual firebrand, and arguably my most powerful Renegade in the entire Epic, male or female. But she’s also a right-leaning libertarian. As is the love of her life, Kress Conway. And speaking of being a firebrand, Liza ain’t afraid to incinerate opponents when she catches them looking to land the kill shot. Or worse…

2 – Kaija Jokiharju (Catenarian Chronicles)

Few characters go through more hell than Kaija Jokiharju, and that’s pronounced kai-yah yoki-har-yu. Kaija loses her father, lives with her estranged uncle for a few weeks, goes to university, and finds out she can talk to spirits. Oh, and there are a few other dark secrets she needs to deal with. But you know what? For an 18-year-old, Kaija never stops showing up. And she embraces the chaos.

3 – Yote Diamondback (Arcane Elemental Academy)

Imagine being 14 years old, rejected from an elitist high school everyone expected you to attend, and end up going to school in a strange land that’s an eight-hour drive from your home. Oh, and imagine playing second fiddle to a sister who got into that school. Yeah, that’s Yote Diamondback, and adversity’s toughened her up more than she thinks. She’s athletic and ultra-gifted in element control. The latter makes her a threat to any opponent.

4 – Mina Hirai (Chronicles of Rondure)

Condemned to “the hole” and chained to her own toilet. That’s how Mina Hirai’s story starts in Civil War. Her nation’s war machine raised her and they’re about to regret it. Because Mina isn’t putting up with that same nation making a spectacle of and torturing her for long.

5 – Sabre Kjaergaard (Sentrys of Terrene)

Sabre’s been lied to her entire life. And to make matters worse, she’s destined to join the “dark side.” Not through trickery or blackmail, but pure physical torture. Nothing hardens Sabre Kjaergaard up more or gives her a greater reason to wreak havoc when she gains combat experience. She learns she can down unmanned drones early on. Later, she’s taking out elite fighter jets. So yeah, she’s a badass, even if she’s no boss.

6 – Tarja Titan (Terrian Chronicles)

Unlike all my other characters on this list, Tarja Titan was killed before the events of her novel of the same name. But she’s alive and well, meaning she’s got a superpower waiting to be rediscovered. She’s left in the dark, has no memory of her past life, nor does she know why she’s Public Enemy Number One of this dark, sadistic faction. Yet instead of running from her problems, Tarja learns she’s not just destined to master the Element of Spirit; she is the Element of Spirit. That’s when the ass-kicking and name-taking starts.

7 – Mali LaSalle (Cymraeg Tales)

Cursed Mage, a dark paranormal fantasy by TC MartiSociety chewed up and spit out Mali LaSalle, as it did with any outcast. But that hasn’t stopped Mali from invading palaces, granting herself knowledge, and training to illegally master Spirit. And when she does all of the above? Oh, the party’s just getting started.

Want to know something insane about six of these seven strong female protagonists? They reside in the same shared universe, deemed the Renegades Epic. Only Yote Diamondback doesn’t belong, but she’s still part of the expanded Elementals Universe, so she’s got a lot in common with these girls.

If you want to meet one of them, start with Kaija. Her story’s on the simpler side, but it’s more exciting than you can ever imagine. When she’s talking with drowned ghosts who hold dark secrets and outmaneuvering dangerous political opponents? How is that not entertaining?

Catch her story, Cursed Mage, at The Rebel Lore Vault. And make sure you save room for the other girls mentioned, too. Shit’s about to get real.
