Arcane Elemental Academy’s Sibling Rival: Jett Diamondback
Jett Diamondback is a familiar face to all YA fantasy readers because they know someone from school who is or was like her.
- Parents: Zane and Willow Diamondback
- Sibling: Yote Diamondback
- Fun Fact: Jett’s a multi-sport athlete
- Hogwarts House: Gryffindor
- Arcane School: Doesn’t attend Arcane in Book I
- Birthday: Feb. 23
- Named After: The Winnipeg Jets and Arizona Diamondbacks
Jett’s the older of the Diamondback sisters. She has straight, shiny black hair that falls between her shoulders and mid-back, almond-shaped green eyes, and ivory skin.
Jett’s the stereotypical mean girl. She helped forge the popular clique early in her middle school days, not long after she decided Yote couldn’t be her friend anymore. She also one-upped Yote during weekend training sessions with their dad, Zane Diamondback.
In middle school, Jett was active in the community despite her mean girl persona. Jett often gained county and district-wide recognition, and she knew how to achieve the high standards for admission into the Lamerth Academy, an Elemental college preparatory school.
She paced her graduating class with a 4.3 grade point average, but wasn’t happy to share the Valedictorian stage with Yote, who graduated with a 4.25. She was the best. Why did she have to share the stage because of some stupid rule that granted Valedictorian status to anyone exceeding the 4.0 landmark?
Personality, traits, and relationship with Yote
The best way to describe Jett? She was the James Potter of her group, who you can dub the Marauders if we’re making comparisons. Yote was Jett’s own personal Severus Snape, except they lived under the same roof.
Jett was the star athlete, star student, and a role model for students given her participation in community events. Her constant bullying went undetected.
In the early chapters of The Arcane Prophecy, Jett’s verbally and physically abusive toward Yote. She taunts Yote under her breath before each drill, and tries injuring her during their mock duels.
Jett bends the rules just enough to keep her dad from disqualifying her in those duels. The more physical pain she unleashes on Yote, the happier she is.
Relationship with Zane and Willow Diamondback
Jett’s never afraid to butt heads with Zane and Willow. During the training scenes in The Arcane Prophecy, Jett questions Zane and accuses him of favoring Yote. She also justifies her behavior when she attacks Yote following one of their training sessions.
While Zane and Willow care about Jett and want to see her succeed, they worry about her self-righteous attitude. Jett’s the “born with a silver spoon in her mouth” type. Someone born into privilege and expects others to cater to her, leading to Zane and Willow to second-guess themselves.
Ready to see how nasty Jett is toward Yote and her parents? Find out in the prequel novella, Arcane Awakenings, and the first three chapters of The Arcane Prophecy.
