A teenage girl with rust-colored hair walks across a modern private academy campus at dusk, wearing a hoodie, jeans, and a backpack, with contemporary buildings and other students in the background.

Star of The Arcane Prophecy: Yote Diamondback

Yote Diamondback is the protagonist of The Arcane Prophecy and Arcane Elemental Academy, a liberty-loving YA fantasy series.

  • Parents: Zane and Willow Diamondback
  • Sibling: Jett Diamondback
  • Fun Fact: Yote wore No. 3 in sports before switching to No. 13
  • Hogwarts House: Slytherin
  • Arcane School: Scorpii
  • Birthday: Dec. 31
  • Named After: The Arizona Coyotes and the Arizona Diamondbacks

Yote’s the younger of the Diamondback sisters. She has thick, slightly frizzy rust-colored hair that falls just past her shoulders, pale skin, large brown eyes, a pentagram-shaped “birthmark” on her forearm, and an ultra-petite build.

Yote often played second fiddle to Jett while growing up. She struggled to keep up with Jett in their weekend conditioning outings led by their father, Zane. Yote was also second to Jett in school, logging fewer community hours, and focusing on one sport instead of three.

While she graduated middle school as a Valedictorian, Yote finished slightly behind Jett academically. However, with a 4.25 grade point average, she made the cut. The Kenborne Jr. Prep Elemental Academy granted Valedictorian status to anyone who finished over the standard 4.0.

Personality and Traits

Yote Diamondback may be a “nice girl,” but as you can see above, her Hogwarts House is Slytherin.

She’s so ambitious, she’ll do anything to prove herself. If that means attending a high school seven hours from her home to better her chances at success, so be it.

Yote also takes pride in her appearance. Hoodie and jeans girl? Absolutely. But she’s wearing the best jeans, the best hoodie, and customized designer shoes she can admire herself in.

She’s envious of Jett, something she implies often in The Arcane Prophecy. Yote also does anything to one-up her peers, both at Kenborne and Arcane.

Finally, The Arcane Prophecy reveals Yote’s attraction to elitism. She falls for the “rich kid” despite his cocky demeanor while “friend-zoning” the “nice guy” she meets.

Yote also isn’t afraid to use their attraction to her as leverage. So despite her sweet, charming nature, Yote’s got a cunning side that doesn’t hold back.

Relationship with Jett

In grade school, Yote and Jett were inseparable. Come middle school, Jett joined the mean girls clique, leaving Yote behind as a loner.

Jett and her band of mean girls loved tormenting Yote behind closed doors, something seen in the Arcane prequel novella, Arcane Awakenings. This often happened in locker rooms, when teachers looked the other way, at lunch, and in the courtyard.

In the opening chapters of The Arcane Prophecy, Jett’s verbally abusive toward Yote. She even gets physical with Yote after Yote upsets her in a duel.

Still, Jett drops an uncomfortable clue to Yote, making a snarky comment to her about their program designer and Zane’s best friend, Archer Shade.

Yote brushes the comment off, but it lingers to the forefront of her mind throughout the book.

Relationship with Zane and Willow Diamondback

The Arcane Prophecy by TC MartiYote’s mom and dad aren’t tropey. They don’t favor Jett and abuse Yote. It’s implied early that they’re more sympathetic to Yote, knowing she needs support thanks to Jett’s constant one-upping.

Zane also first brings up the idea for Yote to attend Arcane. He and Willow are enthusiastic when Yote agrees to check the place out.

Zane is strict, however, and he’s not afraid to “punish” Yote with a trip to her room and ready-to-eat military-grade meals when she loses duels to Jett. Something seen early in The Arcane Prophecy.

He may be more sympathetic, but he’ll keep Yote and Jett on the same level of a pedestal most of the time. Yote, at the end of the day, appreciates this.
