An epic, dystopian fantasy scene featuring elemental magic and war. Two staples in the Renegades Epic.

Renegades Epic refuses to pick one genre and readers love it

The Renegades Epic falls into several subgenres of fantasy, but there’s no one clear-cut genre. It’s unorthodox, and it keeps things fresh.

Wind Wielder by TC Marti

As a reader and an author, I’ve always found conventional genres and genre tropes boring as hell. While a lot of readers want to go through the same tropes, plot elements, and character archetypes, others crave something fresh.

So when I concocted the Renegades Epic shared universe, I shot for the same thing. I wanted to fuse different subgenres of fantasy, and further combine them with sci-fi and dystopian elements. A risk? Hell yeah.

But in the “Age of Sameness” with all too familiar stories one can easily package and transform into the next woke Netflix hit, I had to inject chaos. The endgame? Tune out readers who crave sanitized fiction and welcome in those who were every bit as sick and tired of what’s been going on in the literary world as me.

The result? Genre-fusion stories and no wokeness or tokenism involved. Check out a snippet of each series below.

Outlining each series in the Renegades Epic and their genre(s)

Catenarian Chronicles

Dark paranormal fantasy with dystopian and sci-fi

My strongest and most complete work, starting with Cursed Mage. Catenarian Chronicles is the perfect lead-in to the Renegades Epic, since it carries the strongest worldbuilding and covers most of the “jargon” that appears in other series.

Elementals of Nordica

Fantasy fusion featuring sci-fi and military

My original series, but when I started writing it, I was still figuring out the Epic’s finer points. I’ve labeled it a “fantasy fusion,” based on the fact that it contains more fantasy subgenres than any other series listed.

Sentrys of Terrene

Post-apocalyptic dystopian military science fantasy retelling

Yeah, Sentrys (not a typo) covers a lot of ground. Think of it as your traditional post-apocalyptic dystopian series fused with elemental magic. This one is also a loose retelling of Star Wars, since I was writing Star Wars-related content under a different pen name when I first concocted the series.

Chronicles of Rondure

Grimdark military dystopian science fantasy

This one gets disturbing, so it carries the grimdark label. That said, it’s not as bleak as traditional grimdark; another example of how I love coloring outside the lines. But if you like work that’ll tie your stomach in knots and you’re cool with elements like forced mutilation, then you’ll be right at home.

Terrian Chronicles

Paranormal academy featuring small-town and urban fantasy

One series from three different points of view: Tarja Titan, Braden Hawk, and Liza Fury. Tarja and Liza take center stage here as the alternating title characters. This is the one series where my sub-genres literally change from book to book.

Cymraeg Tales

Old-world young adult epic fantasy with noblebright and nobledark elements

A 600-year prequel series to Elementals of Nordica, Cymraeg Tales gives you insight on the main characters from that series’ ancestors. While it’s epic fantasy in nature, these books only run between 63,000 and 70,000 words apiece.

Now that you got a rundown of what the Renegades Epic is all about, check out the preferred reading order, which is an alternative to the chronological order of each series listed above. Each series stands on its own but connects through overlapping lore, worlds, and generations of characters. But for clarity, start with Cursed Mage, and work your way across the landscape.

You can get Cursed Mage at my Payhip store, The Rebel Lore Vault, and dive into this complex yet enticing shared universe.
