Why AI said I’m most like Sirius Black in Harry Potter
I’m no Harry or Dumbledore. I’m Sirius Black. Rebel, loyalist, and libertarian spirit who rejects authority and fights for freedom.
When you grow up on fantasy, sooner or later someone asks: “Which Harry Potter character are you?”
I’ve thought about this a lot. Not in the Buzzfeed-quiz, “What’s your Patronus?” way, but in the “Who do I actually resonate with, ideologically and personally?” way.
So, I punched the question into AI. And the answer, without a doubt, is Sirius Black.
Rebel against authority
Sirius didn’t buy into the propaganda of his aristocratic family. He despised the cult of blood purity and rejected the suffocating dogma forced on him.
In the same way, I’ve rejected the propaganda of state schooling and collectivist politics. Where most people bow to institutions, I look for ways to undermine them, or build alternatives.
Sirius broke free of the Black family legacy, and I’ve broken free of the state’s grip.
Fierce loyalty, selective trust
Sirius was loyal to James Potter and the few he trusted, but cynical toward institutions like the Ministry of Magic. He knew bureaucracies weren’t to be trusted.
That’s me, to the letter. I’m fiercely loyal to the people who’ve proven themselves. But I treat Washington, the military-industrial complex, and other state institutions with the suspicion they deserve.
The outsider with fire in his chest
Sirius spent years locked away—wrongly imprisoned—yet never surrendered his identity. That fire resonates with me as someone who won’t conform to the neat little boxes the establishment builds.
I’ve built my books, my sports writing, my blog, and even product ideas on the same premise: Don’t ask permission. Just do the damn thing and write the damn story.
Defiance until the end
What makes Sirius most like me isn’t just rebellion. It’s rebellion with principle. He didn’t rebel for fun; Sirius rebelled because he knew truth, freedom, and self-ownership were worth more than comfort or conformity.
That’s exactly how I approach life and fiction alike.
I’m not Harry, seeking a prophecy. Nor am I Hermione, the overachiever who (mostly) plays by the rules. I’m not even Dumbledore, maneuvering behind the curtain.
I’m Sirius: flawed, fierce, and free, distrustful of the Ministry, defiant of authority, and loyal to the cause of liberty.
The libertarian firebrand in my dystopian trilogy
Know who else is a firebrand built in Sirius Black’s mold? Quinn Cozens, The protagonist in my dystopian survival thriller, Beyond the Lost Horizon.
Quinn’s the most unapologetic libertarian and revisionist historian you’ll ever meet. Statists and conformists will hate him. But if you’re into characters unafraid to spit out uncomfortable truths that your local public school either hid or glossed over, you’ll love Quinn.
The guy’s a Sirius Black clone, just like me. Get Beyond the Lost Horizon now, and meet him.
