Strong female protagonists in the Renegades Epic

Ranking the 7 strong female protagonists in the Renegades Epic

The Renegades Epic is laden with strong female protagonists, from kickass Spirit Masters to cunning rebels. And they all boast a never-say-die attitude.

While the Renegades Epic boasts unforgettable male characters like Sion Zona and Tage Ras-Svendson, it’s laden with strong female protagonists. Every girl listed below has won more fights than she’s lost, and they seem to unleash hordes of strength their Elemental/Sentry/Mage power grants them.

So, if I had to rank each of these girls, who clocks in at No. 1? It wasn’t the easiest list to concoct, since each girl can make their respective case for the top spot. But at the end of the day, only one could take the crown.

Who won, and what makes them so powerful?

7 – Tarja Titan

Ah, Tarja Titan, the astral-projecting, time-traveling, death-defying Spirit Elemental who is the physical manifestation of the Goddess Valitut and the Second Sister. But, Tarja isn’t exactly the ass-kicker that so many others are on this list, and that docks her a few points.

Still, she can travel through the Five Worlds at will through Source Fields instead of the usual archways. She’s never afraid to face off against Elemental Masters more powerful than she is, and Tarja’s garnered a reputation as a risk-taker. No, she’s not a fighter, but no other Spirit Master in the Renegades Epic picked up on astral projection, time travel, and cross-world travel faster.

6 – Ella Kinnunen

Some might say Ella Kinnunen deserves a higher spot, given her sly, cunning, yet high-risk demeanor. Ella’s resourceful, and disobeying her power-hungry father, Samuli, is second nature. Plus, she’s a gifted Fire Mage known for taking down Mage Masters with decades more combat experience.

Oh, and her genius-level IQ has led her to invent power grids the size of handheld spheres, insect bots to do her bidding, and incognito watch hologram apps. Still, Ella’s recklessness means she’s more likely to find herself in checkmate than the other strong female protagonists on this list, something she learned the hard way in Deceived Mage.

5 – Sabre Kjaergaard

Few characters in the Renegades Epic leveled up faster than Sabre Kjaergaard, but she still finds herself in the back half of these rankings. But, how can a Maalivahti who seemingly unleashed her Sentry Master Status in record time not find herself in at least the top three?

Other than being named after a historically bad hockey team in our own world? Sabre’s prone to emotional outbursts and has even attacked her own allies. Sure, she’s overcome a lot of adversity and had single-handedly won battles, but Sabre’s lack of maturity and flirtation with the “dark side” put her team in danger more times than I can count.

4 – Kaija Jokiharju

Kaija’s the perfect middle girl. While she embraces her Mage legacy and is never reluctant to get into a fight, she’s also shown some prudence. In Cursed Mage, there were times when she seemed hesitant to enter a fray, and she’d needed bailouts on multiple occasions.

Still, instead of running from what many would find a disturbing gift, Kaija goes out of her way to learn more about it. And while she needs a push or two every now and again, she pulls through and emerges out the other side stronger than she was before. It’s something we literally saw her accomplish in Cursed Mage.

3 – Malikki “Mali” LaSalle

Oh yes, our ultra-gifted Untouchable outcast who’s faced more adversity than anyone else on this list. Mali LaSalle is one of just two characters mentioned here to have already achieved Master Status, with the other being Mina Hirai (see the next section).

She grows easily into her gift, and she rarely finds herself on the wrong end of a fight. But, like Sabre, Mali’s vindictive nature blinds her and she’ll go after an ally when pushed to her breaking point. And for a Spirit Master, Mali doesn’t always trust her intuition. Something that’s landed her in trouble in the past.

2 – Mina Hirai

Our resident Smoke Master, few have survived through more hell than Mina. In fact, when I made this list, I juggled between putting her at No. 1, but ultimately decided she’s a ‘really good’ No. 2. And for one, it’s because her strength, smarts, and survival skills are beyond proficient.

Mina’s so relentless, that she’s fought and defeated Elemental Masters one would’ve thought she’d have had no business holding her own against. Something we saw multiple times in Civil War and BattleFront. Her one drawback? Mina’s never really won a fight on her own, and almost always had at least one or more allies backing her when the stakes peaked.

1 – Liza Fury

And that leaves Liza Fury, who’s granted not one but two Elemental Swords before she even knew much about her powers. And it’s not long until Liza masters the Fire Element and wreaks havoc on hordes of opponents who own more life and combat experience.

While Liza needs help every now and again, especially when her recklessness puts her in a catch twenty-two, she’s bailed plenty of friends out of trouble, such as her sidekick and love interest Kress Conway, when werewolves nearly ravaged the girl. And for the record, no, this is not a ‘woke safe space.’ It’s part of the character arc.

Anyway, Liza’s also nearly invincible, having once survived a building explosion and was back on her feet and training again within weeks. Oh, and when you threaten someone close to her, she’s not stopping until she gives you a reason to remember her – which usually ends with an opponent suffering at least third-degree burns. Thus, she’s the strongest of our strong female protagonists.
