3 Harry Potter characters who helped inspire Yote Diamondback
I had a lot of inspiration behind Yote Diamondback, but three distinct Harry Potter characters helped build her foundation in different ways.
Yote Diamondback may’ve gotten her name from the old Arizona Coyotes and the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks. But there’s a lot of lore behind her, with a plethora of real life and fictional inspirations, like a few Harry Potter characters.
This one will be a quickie, since I’ve written extensively on these inspirations in the past. But if you want an intro, look no further.
1 – Harry Potter
Yote has a few prevailing characteristics that match The Boy Who Lived. She’s one hell of an athlete, she’s fine with breaking rules and taking risks, and she often excels when forced to think on her feet. Harry Potter exemplifies all of these traits.
2 – Pansy Parkinson
No, Yote’s not one to bully others. Heck, Yote’s sister bullied her before she came to Arcane. Still, she would be a Slytherin, something I’ve said about 472 times at this point, and counting. She’s also attracted to wealth and status, literally to the point she’ll turn down “nice guys” and go all googly-eyed for a kid who has a rich and well-known father. Even if that kid sometimes thinks he owns the school. She’s also quick to conform if it means staying atop the social order.
3 – Lord Voldemort
She’s born on the last day of the year, has a strange obsession with snakes, and a knack for charming just about everyone. And the reason I say “just about” is because one character keeps “an annoyingly close watch” on her in The Arcane Prophecy. While Yote is nowhere near as deviant or sinister as Voldemort, she can use her charm to worm her way out of tight situations when she needs to. Oh, and there’s also that truth bomb I drop toward the end of The Arcane Prophecy that further likens her to Voldemort.
Harry Potter characters are the tip of the iceberg
Earlier, I said there are quite a few other characters, fictional and nonfictional, who I based Yote on. Whether it’s girls from my old high school (maybe public school had its uses after all), or other characters I read about or watched on TV way back in the day, Yote’s quite the amalgam.
Maybe you’ll see more examples of who else inspired the character by reading the first three chapters of The Arcane Prophecy.
I can’t promise you that I got the next Harry Potter waiting, because that’s neither possible nor desirable. That said, I got a work full of elemental, runic, and magical realism waiting to be opened. And now, you’re coming along for the ride. Catch the first three chapters now.
