Terrorist cells overrun the West in this gritty dystopian survival trilogy

This dystopian survival trilogy opens with one of the most disturbing and goriest scenes out there. What’s worse? It could happen to anyone.

Imagine: you’re enjoying a concert. Maybe it’s a K-pop concert, and your celebrity crush is onstage.

They’re doing what they do best: looking good in the spotlight. They lock eyes with you and you throw them a smile. They smile back, before it flickers as three quick pops pierce the air. A few people scream, but most think it’s part of the show.

Another series of pops. More this time. And then it dawns on you: this isn’t part of the show. Far from it. These are gunshots and the couple in front of you crumpled after they got blasted in the back of their heads.

Teenage girls scream hysterically as their dates collapse. Black blood squirts from their boyfriends’ exposed skulls as brain matter splatters across your sneakers.

You drop to the muddy ground, inhaling a mixture of earth, blood, sweat, and guts, crawling like a soldier and praying a stray bullet doesn’t end you. People trip over you as death rattles reach your ears. You keep crawling, knowing if you slow down or stop, you won’t live to see the next sunrise.

Finally, you make it to the stage, slip around it, and beeline for the nearby forest, crouching to make yourself a smaller target. And there, peering behind a fallen log, is that same girl. Your crush. Only you’re the sole survivors of the deadliest attack in your nation’s history.

Introducing a gritty dystopian survival trilogy

Terrorist cells that lived among Americans for years came out of the woodwork. They attacked concerts, sporting events, cut entire power grids, and threw even the military into total darkness.

How they accomplished this, nobody knew. Help came from within, no doubt. Came from someone who knew how to shut down power grids to America’s most powerful institutions, leaving the nation in a panic.

Once the body count topped one million in a matter of minutes, Phase II began. These cells shut down bridges and highways, relaying to their buddies to leave the cities and invade smaller towns.

There, they broke into homes, dragged out the inhabitants, and introduced bullets to their domes. Some were lucky, as those terrorists saw value in them. But “lucky” came with an asterisk. Those who lived were forced into trucks and shunted to outdoor prison camps, where they’d await their ultimate fates.

Meanwhile, the one survivor of that concert’s onslaught, Quinn Cozens, crossed paths with Yui Kikuchi, a K-pop idol who insisted on staying behind and waiting for her bodyguards. Quinn knew better: those bodyguards were dead. But Yui? A girl trained to lean on those bodyguards and hadn’t made her own decisions in years? She held out hope despite the situation.

Knowing Yui was fooling herself, Quinn dragged her away from the venue. Much to his own risk, but there was a reason Quinn couldn’t leave Yui behind. And that reason kicks off a tragic character arc.

Beyond the Lost asks the reader “what if?”

An edgy dystopian survival trilogy, Beyond the Lost doesn’t fit into typical genre tropes. Instead, it gives the reader a speculative look of what could happen if terrorist cells struck America and the West in one cataclysmic moment.

Where did they come from? How did they enter the nation? And who was ultimately behind the attacks? Iran? China? Russia? Or, somebody closer to home? Somebody who looked like many Americans with their clean-shaven, crisp appearance, and bright smile fit for public relations?

But that’s not the biggest “what if?” No. The biggest “what if” comes with the reader asking themselves one chilling question: What would I do if I found myself in ground zero of the deadliest attack in my nation’s history?
