A quiet, dimly lit stone corridor inside a magical academy at night, where an unassuming janitor with a mop and cleaning cart pauses mid-task under glowing rune-lit lanterns, watching the hallway with calm, observant eyes.

Aurora Village’s Eyes and Ears: Rass Vexx

ByTC Marti

Rass Vexx isn’t a flashy character. He does janitorial work for the Arcane Elemental Academy. But he’s observant, and a constant source of advice for Yote.

  • Parents: Damon and Lilith Vexx
  • Fun Fact: Rass is one of the few Elementals who never reveals his powers
  • Hogwarts House: Gryffindor (Hatstall with Slytherin)
  • Arcane School: None
  • Birthday: Aug. 30

Rass Vexx is one of those “nice guys” and “voices of reason” in The Arcane Prophecy. Yote Diamondback turns to Rass more than anyone else when it’s revealed Zane and Willow were good friends with and went to Lamerth with him.

Rass, however, was nowhere near as successful at Lamerth, often performing just well enough to avoid flunking out. Despite his shortcomings, Rass is content with his life and his job. One that is low-status for a Lamerth grad.

He also doesn’t look like the stereotypical Lamerth alumni, with an overweight build, a T-shirt and mesh shorts style, and low-tech preferences. For example, he still carries around a flip phone.

He may have a “nice guy” demeanor but, like his nemesis and constant nuisance Cassara Darkwood, there’s more to Rass’ character.

Rass Vexx is the “middle man” between Yote and her family

The Arcane Prophecy by TC MartiWhile Yote constantly talks with Zane and Willow through text messaging and voice calls, it’s not their only means of communication. In The Arcane Prophecy, Willow insists on making a “collage” of Yote and Jett’s high school days, so she also exchanges handwritten letters.

Rass often picks up these letters at one of the private parcel services in the area before delivering them to Yote. He’ll also take Yote’s letters to the same parcel service, so they make their way back to Willow.

What makes Willow so insistent on undergoing this little project? For one, it’s Aurora Village’s uniqueness. You won’t catch Rass Vexx or Aurora in the opening chapters of The Arcane Prophecy, but you will find out how Yote ends up there in the first place. Catch them right now if you’re interested in YA fantasy.
