Jackie Cozens isn’t a character you meet in Beyond the Lost Horizon. But her backstory fuels Quinn Cozens’ motivation throughout the trilogy.

Jackie Cozens’ relationship with Quinn was always complicated. They had more differences than they had in common when they were younger. Quinn was the ambitious one, and, unless it came to religion, Jackie was the conformist.

She harbored ambitions to live a cozy life, but one in which she was always there for friends and family. As she grew older, her insistence on spending time with those closest to her contrasted with Quinn’s, and her brother’s antics became a source of annoyance for Jackie.

She routinely told Quinn it wasn’t worth sacrificing family for ambition. But the more she pressed, the more Quinn resisted. Add in Jackie’s left-leaning worldview clashing with Quinn’s anarcho-libertarian views, and it caused an even greater rift.

In the years leading up to the attack, Jackie went to college, graduated, and married a man who fell short of Quinn’s liking. Not because he was no good, but because he had everything Quinn wanted. He owned a large home and held a high-prestige job. Jackie used the man’s connections and went into banking, something she found stable.

Jackie Cozens is the one character you will miss

Beyond the Lost Horizon by TC MartiNo other off-screen character in Beyond the Lost Horizon is more interesting. Quinn comes across an old photo of Jackie and she’s constantly on his mind, wondering if she made it through the worst terrorist attack in American history.

Quinn more than realized he lost everything while he and Yui Kikuchi hid from those terrorists. He never had a chance to make amends with his younger sister, a girl he should have been there for, and it eats his soul alive.

It’s why Yui is such an important character in Beyond the Lost Horizon. Quinn knows he may never see Jackie alive again. But if he couldn’t protect her, he could make up for it with Yui. Everything Quinn does, or wants to do, for Yui, it’s with Jackie plastered in his mind. Catch him in action.
